1st Day of Nursery

Today was Novie's first day in nursery. As expected I spent the entire time with her. She wasn't as clingy as I thought she would be but I wasn't able to leave either. I am planning on spending at least the next month in there. As a complete shock, Novie was AMAZING during Sacrament Meeting. She sat quietly on my lap looking at pictures and eating her cheerios. She decided she had had enough about 10 minutes before it ended. Wiggly kid for 10 out of 70 minutes, I'll take that any day!

Forward Facing

Before Novie was born we decided that she would ride rear facing even after she met the minimum requirements, legally a child is allowed to ride forward at 12 months AND 20lbs. The reason for our decision is there have been studies that show an infant's spine is still very fragile at 12 months and if in an accident a forward facing infant could be killed by internal decapitation. We switched Novie's chair on New Year's Day and she loves it. I like being able to see her in the rearview mirror but it was much easier to buckle her in rearfacing.

We Gonna Be On Cops?

Since Novie was spending New Year's with Nana and Pop, Wes and I decided we would spend the night at HorseshoeBayResort. I chose Horseshoe Bay because I knew there would not be any fireworks and only one of the resort restaraunts would be open for New Year's festivities.

Our plans were to order room service, watch a movie, take a sleeping pill, and sleep soundly all night. Of course that is not what actually happened. Our meal and movie was good but outrageously expensive, we skipped the sleeping pill, and closed our eyes after the ball dropped in New York. About 15 minutes later we were awakened by arguing. It wasn't very loud and we couldn't tell where it was coming from so of course we tried to listen harder. After a few more minutes it wasn't necessary to strain and we determined they were in the room next to us. The yelling escalated and I was tired of listening to a drunk woman whine about not getting to talk to her mom and a drunk man countering that he is always there for her. I decided to call security when there was talk of hitting from both sides and doors slamming. The security guard tried to diffuse the situation but didn't have any luck so 911 was called.

When the police arrived the commotion was moved to the hall so everyone on the 5th floor would be lucky to hear what we had already gotten a taste of. Wes and I decided that this was worth staying up for and we could sleep in the morning. Crowded around the peep hole we watched as the drunk 23 year old woman told her side of the story to the female cop. In between her storytelling she would yell down the hall to her friends to "make sure he knows I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble." Apparently she had bleeding scrapes on her knee and a bloody busted lip. The scrapes were caused by a "dirtbike fight" (whatever that is) from a few days earlier and she could not recall how she busted her lip. The male cop questioned her about the "dirtbike fight" until he was satisfied that these were indeed old wounds. The busted lip however was not. He repeatedly asked her if the man she was with had hit her to which she replied "I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble. I'm not trying to get myself in trouble. I'm not trying to get him in trouble. I just want to go home. Can't I just go home?" This roundabout went on about 5 more times. I have watched enough Cops episodes to know that her answer indicated that the man was the cause for the busted lip. The male cop must have too because he tried another angle:
"Well Trevor told us that you busted your lip when you fell down. Did you fall down Kim?"
"I'm drunk but I know for sure I did not fall down. I'm 23 years old. I didn't fall down."
"Did Trevor hit you?"
"I DID NOT FALL DOWN. I am not trying to get anyone in trouble. I just want to go home."
The frustrated male cop turned Kim back over to the female cop. The female cop is trying to engage Kim in friendly chatter when Kim goes back to yelling down the hall. The cop tells her to stop yelling that there are people who have paid to enjoy their rooms. This doesn't deter Kim she keeps yelling "TREVOR, I'm not trying to get you in trouble. I didn't tell them you hit me. Make sure he knows I didn't tell them he hit me. Make sure he knows I'm not trying to get him in trouble!" The female cops loses it and we get to see what we were hoping for. "That's it! Turn around! I told you to stop yelling. You are under arrest." Kim is handcuffed. She is suprisingly calm. She asks if she can get her tennis shoes because "there is no way I can walk like this in my heels." She even starts joking about it with the female cop. As she is being led away she asks the cops to make sure the front desk doesn't charge her credit card for the room.

Once Kim is gone most of the excitement is too. Trevor's side is not nearly as entertaining. He is concerned that if she is allowed to come back for her items she will wreck the room and he will be liable for the damages. He is assured that if she comes back she will be with an escort. Trevor is satisfied with this answer and is led away in cuffs as well.

The rest of the night was uneventful except for a few shouts for "Woman Power" by a drunk woman and a couple of whoops in the early hours.

The title of this blog comes from the great movie Drop Dead Gorgeous. I can't prove it but I am sure the crew of COPS was on the other side of the door filming. If not, we got front row seats anyway.

What a Wonderful Christmas

We had such a wonderful Christmas this year. Novie was sick and didn't really enjoy opening gifts but once they were all opened she had so much fun. I broke down this year and bought an artificial tree. I am pretty pleased with it.

A Little Random

I have been really bad about blogging. Here are a few pictures to kind of play catch up.

BUCKET FUN
Novie pulled the hospital bucket from under my sink into the living room. The first time she did it she of course was naked. I thought the novelty would wear off once she was dressed. I should have wrapped it instead of all of the educational gifts I got her.
Kisses!

Novie decided she wanted to undress herself. I don't think it worked out as she had planned.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Halloween was interesting this year. Novie and I went to a great free Fall Festival at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. There were tons of kids and Novie loved looking at all of the costumes. She wasn't too keen on the games though. After about 45 minutes I decided we had had enough and we should meet Nana for lunch. This is where things go terribly wrong. As I was about to get Novie out of the car I remembered that Nana had wanted to see the pictures on my camera. I gently closed Novie's door in order to get the camera from the front seat. I knew immediately that I had made a huge mistake. THE CAR WAS LOCKED AND THE KEYS WERE IN IT! Of course I go into panic mode and totally overreact. I grab a Fed Ex guy and blubber that I had locked my child in the car and asked if he could watch it while I ran in to call the police. I am not sure what good I thought that would do but I asked anyway. Novie was doing just fine watching her DVD player until the firemen showed up. Three of them jump on the car and eventually get it unlocked. Novie was in hysterics but still managed to sign thank you to the firemen. To add to my humiliation, we have a keylock pad on the driver's side. Before we left the parking lot, I had the code memorized. This is an experience I hope to never have again!
